Air Cond blower replacement

Well, sometimes it run and sometimes it don't. That's what happened to the car air-cond blower. Not always do not run but I encounter once that the blower stop working during my long distance travel. Luckily it happened at night so I do not feel hot.

Now, searching for the replacement (NEW) is a bit tough. The serial number on the motor doesn't help and the online Toyota database doesn't seems to give any result in the local market. Luckily I contact Denso Malaysia via Shopee and they are very helpful. Double thumbs up to them.

I show them the photo of the blower and they help to find a similar size and type which match the original wiring plug. The blower do not share the same as Toyota Wish but it's the same for Prado rear blower motor.

How about that.

So I bought one from the Denso Official store in Lazada (got more discount than shopee) and the one in the photo, the one on top the NEW and the bottom is the original from the car.

Totally same. Great ! Installed it less than 10 minutes, do not need to do much thing. Just that I am surprise that there is so much dirt and dust collected over the years.

It is proper to replace it.

Anyway, the parts number is MA116360-12503D, doesn't cost much and you can DIY it. Just 3 screws

T10 light bulb replacement

During routine check up of the car, I notice that the small bulb at the front lamp assembly had kaput. So bought a set of LED T10 online and get it fit myself. You can get it from shopee or lazada.
Here is the finished replacement in LED in white, Done. Just a bit of advice, remember not to plug the connector out. I broke a few clips. You only need to twist and pull the entire wiring harness and it will come out.
Here is the original T10 bulb non LED. This will be yellowish in colour compare the white from the LED.

Wrong size sun visor

Sometimes not all purchase for the car is just plug and play and fit good. This time I make a small mistake.
It does look the same but nothing is correct with the original.

The first mistake, the colour is wrong. I got something too beige and not gray enough as the original.

Second mistake, the size. It is much smaller than the original which ended up couldn't even fit the clip at the end. Luckily the screw fit.
This is the comparison between the original and the new.
Here you can see the visor is much shorter.

Anyway, it works and we doesn't look up when driving so we will not notice the problem. So I will be thinking of getting a new one soon.

Gotta check the size and colour properly next time. Lazada not so good this time.

Carpet holder

Have you heard this before ? It is something non important before I heard about the stuck carpet that causes accident. This is actually a clip that will fix your carpet at a fix position.

If you have an original carpet that comes with the car, it should have this clip. If you don't then you might need to invest in one. But make sure your carpet have the hole to hold this.

This is how it look when it is fix down. It will make the carpet neat. Before this, the carpet will push up and get folded near the foot rest.

Now, I will be happy that the carpet will stay in place. And you can buy this clip from Lazada for cheap.

Interior car handle replacement

Do you have the same problem as mine ? The interior handle drop down and it won't retract back up ? It make the interior look messy and old. So after searching in Lazada, I got one of the replacement from China. Cost RM20 each and look great too.
Just use a flat screwdriver to ply it out and you can pull it out later.
The original cover.
The replacement. Colour is different. I bought a beige colour but it look more like light gray.
The colour of the handle look different between the clip and the handle.
This is what happened when pulling the original out. It just broke and the plastic get brittle.

Hope this will help. It doesn't cost much to make it good. Next is going to buy the driver side sun cover.

Hopefully it is still ok.

Changed the radiator cap again

I had notice that the spare tank of coolant always have traces of coolant on the lips of it. It dried up and seems like overflow. However the reserve tank doesn't look dirty etc.

Anyway, I think I just buy a new radiator cap and observe whether it can help or not. Maybe the cap got weak after so many years.

Plus, there is a new design. The symbol look more modern and it have a new part number 16401-36030. I bought one and it does feel great. Maybe it just look new.

Remember that the cap is for 88kPa.

Good a simple DIY

DIY rear door damper

If you bang your head on your rear door mean that you need to replace the damper soon. As the car age, this part will leak and will not support the weight of the door when open to the top.

You just need a flat head screw driver only and you can replace all of it. Just get someone to hold the door for your as safety.

Photo of the leaking original damper
Another view at the middle part

The top
By inserting the flat head screw driver at the angle as specify to remove the clip
The clip will come out and you can pull it out. No need to use hammer or anything hard to hit it. Else the door will misaligned.
Another view.

Get a new set from online shop, I got mine from Lazada. It is not the original but seem like many ppl have purchase it and give it a 5 star. Have a try. It is not too expensive.

Weird that it have a date stamp on the damper as per photo above.

Bottom view.

Overall, satisfy with the purchase and it does fit properly. I give it a 4 star.

Stabilizer link and front stabiliser bush

After changing my front and rear absorber, the ride had improved however a new feeling come. The steering feel a bit loose and weird, not that sensitive to turning. So one day after cleaning my car, I bend down have a look at my front absorber and found that the stabiliser link are wet and the rubber seal are broken.
Since I never change this part before, so it's time to find the parts number and get replacement. While looking at it I discover that the front stabiliser also have 2 rubber bushes. Since replacing these, why not just change that too.
Online in shopee or lazada there are claimed original parts from Toyota but not made in Japan parts available, however there are another 555 brand that made in Japan parts for Toyota Isis. Price is not that expensive so I ordered a set of stabiliser link but I chose the original made in Japan bush as parts of the replacement exercise.
Front stabiliser link parts number are SL-T490-M or SL-T490 from 555 Sankei. This number can be search via their online website.

The bush parts number are 48815-20290 Original Toyota Parts which is applicable to Toyota Wish too.

It seems both parts can be used for both Isis and Wish.

Both cost not that much at below RM100 so it is not that bad.

After replacement, the steering feel better, not like driving a lorry with loose steering feel.

Front and rear absorber

After 12 years, finally the absorber will be replaced and this is somehow interesting. I bought all from shopee at a reasonable price and the details as below.

Rear absorber 48531-2850 by KYB and claimed to be Toyota Original Parts.

Front absorber 48520-69085 (Left) & 48510-69245 (Right) also claimed to be Toyota Original Parts.
Both parts come without a proper original box but somehow a replacement Toyota box which is dodgy.

However both absorber come with UMW Malaysia stickers and seems legit. Parts quality seems ok and look like original parts.

Install both and the mechanic didn't complain a thing. So I assume it is a compatible replacement. The parts doesn't seems to have the same parts number as what I found online.

Anyway, after installing the car felt great and very compliant with speed bumps and road irregularity. However it doesn't feel that comfy as 1st day the car come out as the bushing are not changed too.

Hope this helps all. My advice is to change all the absorber (4) together instead of a pair as you will feel the immediate effect of the cushioning.

Another after effect is the car seems higher after installing. Maybe the car balance out after changing the absorber.

Replacing original fog lamp bulb

It's been a while that the fog lamp blown. It doesn't make much difference driving in town as normally the road are well lit and nothing much difference. Just it look weird and one day my wife notice it and ask me to change it.
Here we go, since I don't know the parts number and can't really open the panel, I decided not to DIY but send it to the shop to do it. Not cheap but since you need someone to do it then you need to pay for labour.

Remember the parts number next time if you wanted to buy one for your DIY. HB4 12V. You just need to search for lazada or shopee and tons of it will show up.

Plug replacement

When you change the oil, it is best to change the spark plug too. Doesn't cost too much but it will give you better fuel efficiency and power. Smoother too.

Change this plug 90080-91161 but it is made in Indonesia. It works fine so no complain.

Drive shaft and engine mounting replacement

If you read my previous post before regarding the drive shaft, I have had problem with drive shaft for the longest time. Not really a big problem but the cover for the drive shaft always fail and it does really annoying and it does cost quite a lot of money to repair it. The labour cost to repair is more than the cost of cover item. So this time, I decided to remove and replace with an aftermarket (new) drive shaft to settle the problem.
A little back stories, for the past 1 year, the front drive shaft have grinding sound when turning hard so I had suspected that the drive shaft are beyond repair and should be replace for safety. I did a lot of outstation trip so safety is top priority.
Fortunately, drive shaft from other car model can fit to Isis. You can use the drive shaft from Toyota Wish 1.8 (ZNE10G) does fit and so far no problem after installing. The cost for an aftermarket drive shaft is affordable too. About RM250 each so RM500 for a pair, plus it is brand new. The brand I choose is GS-P, apparently a Malaysia brand.
Plus during the same time, the car engine does vibrate a lot during idling and I take the opportunity to replace the engine mounting set too. Luckily Toyota Wish come to help again, same engine mounting can be used and it aftermarket cost below RM400 for a set, but I do get a quote for an Original for around RM600 which is a great deal.

Before I forget, please remember to replace the drive shaft oil seal too each time when dealing with drive shaft, its a cheap thing and cost around RM30 each. Both side have different parts number so remember to take note of that.

Not forgetting, ready the transmission oil too during replacement of drive shaft, you will lose a few litre of oil when removing it and just top up as necessary or just replace the transmission oil in the same time. For me this time, just a top up.

Next time, I will show some photo of the broken drive shaft that was replaced.

Lockdown are gone, now for the outstation trip

It's been a while since my family gone outstation to visit my in-law house. The car was sitting there for the past 1 year and due for servicing. As I never send the car to official toyota dealer for servicing, I send it to normal car servicing and sometimes I do buy the parts myself.
This time, it is a bit different, my wife accidentally bought an oil filter online from my account by assuming I wanted it. So I am stuck with the bosch oil filter (first time using it) and I get myself a 4l engine oil.

Send the car for servicing and hope for the best during the trip back home. Both the oil filter and engine oil cost below RM150 and it is a great deal.

Never knew engine oil by Toyota cost so low. I been using aftermarket for the longest time. However I always stick with 5w-30. For me 40 grade is too thick. The car get sluggish with it.
